— It’s an online learning program that aims to help students learn the fundamentals of digital video and the internet — with an emphasis on coding.
Edgenvy, a Vancouver-based company, is seeking to open its first school in Canada this fall.
The Edmonton-based school will offer a three-year bachelor’s degree in digital media arts and sciences and an online program that is designed to help young people develop their skills in digital technology.
The curriculum will be tailored to help people find jobs in the tech sector, said Alex Burtch, CEO of edgenvana.
Edges and paths to becoming a digital video production professional are key to the education, said Burtches partner, Mark Filippone.
“Edgenvana has been around for a long time, it has been proven in a lot of countries that a lot more education is better than less education,” said Filippones partner, David Kroll.
Edging into the Canadian market is a big challenge, said Fannell.
“The way we’re approaching it is if you’re a freelancer in Canada, you’re doing something that’s not part of your regular work day,” said Kroll, who worked as a freelance producer in the video production industry for 10 years before starting edgenvvy.
“So, if you’ve got a degree in computer science, you know how to use a programming language, you’ve built something from scratch.
You’ve got the skills to be a freelancing software developer, so it’s really about the skills, the experience, the drive and the confidence.”
Edgeniva is looking to hire around 50 people, he said.
“We’re also looking for people with some experience in video production, video editing, video production technology and software development, as well as some experience with coding and the digital video process,” said Bostich.
“It’s going to be an intensive program for people who want to be able to work in a digital production industry, but have some experience and knowledge of how to work with digital video.”
Edgewaye is offering a full-time bachelor’s program that will include a master’s degree, Filippon said.
The program will offer courses in programming, game development, digital video, web design and business development.
“They’re going to work together on the same projects.
They’re going all over the world, they’re going into cities and they’re doing everything from production design to marketing and everything in between,” said Giselle Smith, who has been working as a graphic designer in Vancouver since 2013.”
As far as I know, there are no jobs that are available right now, but they’re looking for someone with the experience and the skills and they want to bring in that talent.”
Students who take part in the program will be paid $20,000 for two years, with an option to extend the program to three years, said Krop.
The company is also recruiting for a graduate assistant program in digital production, but it’s not currently offering an offer, said Smith.
She said the school will provide a full course load of coursework on programming and video production.
The students will also receive the opportunity to earn certification for digital production certification, she said.
Students who work in the digital media industry will also get access to an internship and a $2,500 tuition scholarship, she added.
“That’s going be for the students, they’ll get to work on their projects,” said Smith, a graphic design student.
“There are some great opportunities, but that’s all we’re looking to do is provide people with a path to get a real career.”
Edgeworth is offering two bachelor’s programs in digital video technology and one in film production, with the other offering a master of arts in film.
Edgeworks students will work alongside other students in the studio, said D’Arcy Burch, edgeworth’s senior VP and general manager.
“Our focus is on students who are going to have the knowledge and experience to work as a team and create things for us, as we’re working to create the best technology we can and the best content we can,” he said, adding that it will be part of a two-year program.
Edgwaree’s graduate assistant programme will have an initial focus on digital video content, he added.
The graduates will then continue their studies at edgeworks and edgwarees own studio, Burch said.
Edgar College is hiring for an associate of arts, said principal, Mary Ann Johnson.
“Students have the skills that they need to build a successful career, whether that be in film or digital or digital video.
We have the experience that they’re seeking,” she said, but did not offer details.”
When you have a large number of graduates, you’ll get a larger pool of people who are skilled in all the areas that we want
